It was around seven years ago that I first thought about The Dice Man - I was staying with friends in France, Mick and Caroline Cathcart, when over a few glasses of wine Mick told me about a book he had read by Luke Rhinehart - The Dice Man - a story about a bored psychiatrist who hands his life over to the dice.

The very next day, inspired by the book I hatched the idea for a travel show with a difference...travel with a twist!

In the Spring of 1997 I got the chance to turn the fantasy into a reality when Discovery asked me to produce The Dice man…Now some two years later we have just finished our fourth series…which means a total of 60 programs have been produced from some 300 hours of video tape…must work harder Shaun!

I am Russell Harris and with cameraman and traveling companion Shaun Fenton, we set out to find out what life would really be like living and traveling in a totally random fashion, where every decision is made not by the self, but by the roll of a dice. With no means of transport, just a small amount of money, a bag of necessities and our whole future dependent upon the throw of a conventional six-sided green dice.
