The Dice House

Paul Lucas is the highly praised author of five plays. His first, SWAMP CITY, was performed at the Birmingham Rep Studio in May, 1996. ALL THAT TROUBLE THAT WE HAD was also produced at Birmingham Rep and also performed at The Door in 1998. THE SLIGHT WITCH premiered at the same theatre in 2000.
THE DICE HOUSE premiered at the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry in June 2001 and had an extremely successful sold-out run at the Islington Theatre in London in March, In August 2002 the play was invited for a run at the Edinburgh Drama Festival. The reviewers there raved:
“An unreserved delight. More like this please!”
“This is a comedy you can’t risk missing! Seriously funny and funnily serious.”
“Fantastically staged, brilliantly played and hilariously funny, with some philosophical gems!”
“I laughed throughout, as did the entire audience. I recommend booking early!”
“Fascinating, hilarious stuff! No wonder Rhinehart says it’s his favourite DICE MAN inspired
Luke had this to say about reading The Dice House:
Oh, what a treat it was to read Paul Lucas’s play DICE HOUSE. For years people have been adapting my novel THE DICE MAN into various other formsplays, screenplays, TV series, TV documentary. Often I have been disappointed with the results, lamenting that the adapter so completely failed to see the humor and absurdity of dice-living.
Paul’s play is a joyous exception. It is a wonderful marriage of his great comic talent and the absurd material of my otherwise serious book THE DICE MAN.
